Short biography:
Born in 1964. Received BS (Chemistry) in 1985, MS (Biochemistry) in 1987, and
PhD (Biochemistry ; Prof. A. Mandal's lab) in 1992 from the University of
Calcutta, India. The same year he joined the Department of Pediatrics, Medical
University of South Carolina, as a postdoctoral fellow in Prof. Inderjit Singh's
lab. In 1996, he was promoted to Instructor and later in 1998; he was promoted
to Assistant Professor in the same Department. In 1999, he moved to the
Department of Oral Biology of the University of Nebraska Medical Center
(UNMC) as an Assistant Professor of Biochemistry where he was promoted to
Associate Professor in 2002. He is the recipient of the "D. H. Reinhardt
Scholar" Award from the UNMC College of Dentistry and the “Silver U Award”
from the UNMC Chancellor’s Council. As a teacher of Biochemistry, he also
received the outstanding teaching award from the UNMC College of Dentistry.
Research interest:
Glial and neuronal cell signaling and neural stem cell differentiation with an
emphasis to discover drugs and therapeutic strategies against
neuroinflammatory and neurodegenerative disorders such as multiple
sclerosis, spinal cord injury, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and
HIV-associated dementia.
